Eco Burn Education - an Award Winner!
Sunday, 14th January 2024
Mid Coast 2 Tops Landcare has been partnering with NSW RFS, Hunter Local Land Service, Mid Coast Council, the Hotspots Fire Project team and Nature Conservation Council of NSW to run a program called Eco Burn Education. Last month, at the 2023 Sustainable Communities Tidy Towns Awards, the program walked away a winner!
The Eco Burn Education program was entered into the Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Award category. This category looks for projects that strengthen environmental and community resilience to the impacts of climate change, reduce emissions, or sequester carbon from the atmosphere.
The main targets of the program included bushfire preparedness, biodiversity conservation including a First Nations perspective, community strengthening and confidence building to help reduce fear. We are pleased that the Eco Burn Education program has been recognised by the Tidy Towns judging panel as a program that enables our communities to better anticipate, manage and adapt to our changing climate, specifically relating to fire and fire management.
Current funding for the project is complete but watch this space for more news in 2024.
